Wollongong insurance claim
An insurance company was investigating a claim for structural damage to a residential property allegedly caused by the roots of a large nearby tree. We were engaged to examine the property and determine the cause of the damage. We arranged an inspection with the property owner and then travelled from Sydney to Wollongong to undertake the engineering survey.
Our engineer observed some cracking to the front brick fence of the premises, which, with some excavation, was identified as being caused by tree roots. He also observed cracking along the front pathway and to the front façade of the residence, however site conditions indicated this was due to inherent render shrinkage and unrelated to the tree. From his review of earlier studies by other consultants, including a pre-purchase report, he was also able to determine what defects had occurred before and after the purchase of the residence. His detailed written and photographic report documented the site conditions and outlined a scope of works to repair damage to front fence caused by the tree.
